How to Write Attention Grabbing Cover Letters
If you want to write cover letters that grab the reader's attention, here's how to do it. You'll want to make the extra effort to put together a great cover letter consiering it will be the employer's first exposure to you and could be the basis of the decision on whether or not to interview you. Only those who get an interview will be considered for employment so the first hurdle is getting an interview with the hiring manager. You may or may not be familiar with the AIDA formula. It's an old marketing formula that's been taught for generations. It has stood the test of time simply because it is very effective. When you apply this simple formula to a cover letter, you can change a ho-hum cover letter into one that stands out as a "Killer Cover Letter" and almost forces the reader to pick up the phone to find out more about you. You may already know what AIDA stands for but let's review it for those that don't. AIDA is an acronym for Attention, Interest, Desire, Action. The most successful marketers are those who have the ability to guide their prospects along this path from grabbing their attention all the way to taking an action whether that means buying something or in your case picking up the phone to arrange an interview. In this case, the prospect is the hiring manager and you're selling yourself in the sense that you want the hiring manager to contact you for an interview. So I'm going to show you how to grab the hiring manager's attention, create interest, arouse desire, and ultimately get him or her to take action (pick up the phone and call you for an interview). This is more than theory; I've actually tested this system myself with amazing results. Are you ready to get moving? The next few posts will cover the process in more detail. Failing to instantly get the attention of the reader is a cardinal sin when its comes to cover letters.
